Legal Action Anyone?

The disquite over the Copyright Royalty Board streaming rates has brought up the suggestion of legal action - read latest report in Digital Music News Streaming radio broadcasters are now considering legal action against a recently-revised royalty structure issued by the Copyright Royalty Board. The ruling, which replaces percentage-based royalties with per-play calculations, is widely being viewed as a death sentence for small- and mid-size webcasters. Right now the thought is that the initial response needs to be a legal response, NPR station WXPN general manager Roger LaMay recently told internetnews.com. (more)
The Orchard Licences Pandora

An interesting story in the Digital Music News (http://www.digitalmusicnews.com) regarding a licencing agreement between Pandora and The Orchard. This obviously could have wider implications on how services are licenced in the UK. The Orchard has recently licensed its considerable independent catalog to Pandora Media, a long-running recommendation play. Pandora is now pushing into the UK market with a streaming radio service, a launch that is slated for later this year. The service, already live in the United States, allows users to initiate a custom-tailored stream of songs, starting with a favorite track. (more)

Swedish Radio now streaming 8 channels to cellphones

Swedish Radio (SR) is adding more radio channels available over 3G mobile phones. SR began streaming radio channels to cellphones last December with the three pop stations P3 Star, P3 Street and P3 Din gata.
