Technorati has launched an advertising network for blogs - the first time the company has opened up its ads to third party sites. The service will be available for larger blogs at first, but will be expanded in the coming months. (more)

Michael Arrington says the spat between Google and Facebook over the banning of Google's Friend Connect is purely and simply about control of users and user information. "Internet giants know that the days of getting you to spend all of your time inside their walled gardens are over," he writes. "So the next best thing is to at least maintain as much data about the user as possible, and make sure they identify with your brand while they are out there not being on your site." OpenID is becoming popular with developers as it allows users to log into sites with IDs taken from elsewhere - thus encouraging users not to move all their info wholesale. Facebook and MySpace, he says, keep users happy and prevent them from moving all their personal info to other sites by allowing some portability so they don't leave entirely. Washingtonpost.com: WaPo signs up TechCrunch for online syndication deal

TechCrunch stories will now appear in the Washington Post website's technology section as part of a syndication deal between the publishers. "I think this is a good experiment for the Washington Post - adding new types of content to the site to retain reader interest, over and above their existing stories," said TechCrunch's Michael Arrington. Currently no comments will be allowed on TechCrunch content on the WaPo site - something Arrington hopes will change in the future. (more)
Calls to Stop Accusing a Child of Witchcraft

Campaigners are calling for a change in the law to make it a criminal offence to demonise a child, after police told the BBC that they are unable to charge an African pastor who accused children of witchcraft in this country.. (more)

UNHCR distributes 10,000 radio sets in Pakistan quake zone

The UN refugee agency UNHCR has completed the distribution of 10,000 multi-power radio sets in the areas of Pakistan that were hit by an earthquake last October.
