Singapore local radio stations run 24/7 from today

Singapore’s main broadcaster MediaCorp will have all its 13 local radio FM stations run 24/7 starting today. The stations are Gold 90.5FM, Symphony 92.4FM, 938LIVE, Class 95FM, 987FM, Lush 99.5FM, Y.E.S. 93.3FM, Capital 95.8FM, Love 97.2FM, Ria 89.7FM, Warna 94.2FM, Oli 96.8FM and International Channel 96.3FM.

Listeners dig for diamonds

Cork's 96 and 103fm is asking listeners to go digging for diamonds, as planted by the radio station in a promotion with a local jewellers. Also one listener has already won a diamond with €3,000 in the competition, named The Diamond Heist. (more)
Raeburn dropped from LBC

Afternoon show presenter and radio agony aunt Anna Raeburn has left LBC 97.3FM, just weeks after the station was taken over by Global Radio. Programme Director Scott Solder has also departed the station to be replaced by Jonathan Richards. (more)
Uruzgan.FM celebrates its first birthday

LBC helps to fight fraud

Chrysalis station LBC 97.3FM has teamed up with Capital One to launch a multi-media, consumer-awareness campaign to highlight the dangers of fraud. The intensive awareness week will be built around real-life case studies from LBC listeners on James O’Brien’s morning show all next week. (more)
XFM for South Wales

GCap Media has won the final analogue radio licence to be awarded by Ofcom, with its XFM format. It will be the fourth XFM branded station to go on air, alongside London, Manchester and Scotland. The station beat 7 other applicants and will cover Cardiff and Swansea - plus places like Bridgend, Neath, Llanelli and Port Talbot - on 106.8fm and 107.3fm. (more)

LBC rapped for live advert

Ofcom has found Greater London station LBC 97.3FM in breach of Rule 10.2 after presenter Anna Raeburn read out a live advertisement. A listener believed the item was not clearly separated from the programme and was therefore confusing to listeners. (more)
New regional Dutch commercial station launches at 1400 UTC

The official launch of Holland FM, a new regional commercial station serving Friesland, will take place at 1400 UTC today. The station has already been testing for a while on three FM frequencies: 97.9 (serving most of Friesland), 97.7 (Terschelling) and 104.7 (Leeuwarden).

Kiss network goes interactive

Emap's Kiss radio stations are letting their listeners pick an entire hour's playlist every day. A new network show - Kiss What's Next - is launching on weekdays on the group's three FM dance stations in London, Bristol and East Anglia. Fresh Radio gets FM go-ahead

Fresh Radio, the commercial radio station for Skipton and the Yorkshire Dales will finally make the move to FM in the coming months after serving the Dales for 10 years on medium wave. Five new FM transmitters will broadcast on three FM frequencies, along side the current 936KHz service. (more)

3 hits a magic number

People listen longer to 3FM than any other FM commercial radio station in the whole of the UK, that’s 15.1 average hours per week. The latest industry listening figures prove that 3FM has become the 2nd most listened to radio station on the Isle of Man and the station of choice for 25-44 year olds.
Data released by RAJAR, the joint BBC and commercial radio industry research, has revealed that 3FM has more listeners on the Island than any of the national BBC radio stations and Classic FM. In fact only Manx Radio still has more listeners. (more)

Dutch journalist enters Media Park with illegal weapons

Journalist Alberto Stegeman managed to enter the Hilversum Media Park, adjacent to Radio Netherlands, this morning with a bag containing illegal weapons without being stopped. Stegeman, who works for commercial TV station SBS6, was guest on a 3FM radio show to promote the programme "Undercover in the Netherlands", and wanted to prove that security in the Media Park is still far too lax. The programme Arbeidsvitaminen (literally "work vitamins"), produced by AVRO and broadcast on weekdays by the public network 3FM, has received a warning from the Dutch Media Authority that it may be breaking the media law. Nick Ferrari: My Life In Media

Nick Ferrari, who does not wish to state his age, is the breakfast presenter of LBC 97.3FM. In 2005 he broke the mould with a series of sell-out stage shows, re-enacting his LBC radio show for a live audience. The shows were so popular they will be restaged later this year to coincide with the April launch of his debut book, 'The World According to Nick Ferrari'. In addition to this, he has just been re-signed to LBC on a three-year contract. He lives in Blackheath with his wife and two children. (more)
