Dutch radio listening figures Sept/Oct 2009

The Dutch radio listening figures for September/October were published today by research bureau Intomart GfK. Market leader Radio 538 has increased its share by 0.3 percent, and consolidated its lead over second-placed Radio 2 which itself saw a 0.1 percent rise. (more)

Dutch radio listening figures: 100%NL continues to gain market share

The Dutch radio listening figures for June/July 2009 were published this morning by research bureau Intomart GfK. It was a good period for the public broadcasters. Popular music network Radio 3FM increased its market share to 9.1 percent, the same as Sky Radio which was unchanged from the May/June. (more)

Serious Request campaign raises 5.6 million euros

This year’s festive Serious Request fundraising campaign by Dutch public network Radio 3FM and the Red Cross has brought in 3.1 million euros in donations to help the world’s refugees. This year Development Minister Bert Koenders has added 2. (more)

Dutch radio DJs start six-day charity fast

Three DJs in the southern Dutch town of Breda have begun 3FM Serious Request, a stunt by public radio network 3FM to collect money for refugee charities. They will stay locked in a glass construction in the city’s Grote Markt square without eating anything for six days. (more)

Community broadcasting in the Solomon Islands

Somalia: Strict government laws imposed on three FM stations in Mogadishu

This morning, representatives and owners of three Mogadishu FM stations met with senior officials of the Somali National Security Department, who presented several articles regarding what reports the free media based in the Somali capital should or should not broadcast. (more)

New regional Dutch commercial station launches at 1400 UTC

The official launch of Holland FM, a new regional commercial station serving Friesland, will take place at 1400 UTC today. The station has already been testing for a while on three FM frequencies: 97.9 (serving most of Friesland), 97.7 (Terschelling) and 104.7 (Leeuwarden). (more)

Kiss network goes interactive

Emap's Kiss radio stations are letting their listeners pick an entire hour's playlist every day. A new network show - Kiss What's Next - is launching on weekdays on the group's three FM dance stations in London, Bristol and East Anglia. (more)

Fresh Radio gets FM go-ahead

Fresh Radio, the commercial radio station for Skipton and the Yorkshire Dales will finally make the move to FM in the coming months after serving the Dales for 10 years on medium wave. Five new FM transmitters will broadcast on three FM frequencies, along side the current 936KHz service. (more)

Dutch regional commercial station Nationaal FM off the air

The three FM transmitters of regional commercial station Nationaal FM have been taken off the air today because the station, which has been suffering serious financial problems, has not paid its bill to Telecom Vision International BV (TVI) for the hire of the transmitters. (more)

Radio Netherlands and 3FM developing FM station for Dutch troops in Afghanistan

The Dutch service of Radio Netherlands is working with the domestic public broadcasting network 3FM to develop a radio service for Dutch troops serving in Afghanistan’s Uruzgan province, and the capital Kabul. The working name of the station is 3NL. (more)

Dutch journalist enters Media Park with illegal weapons

Journalist Alberto Stegeman managed to enter the Hilversum Media Park, adjacent to Radio Netherlands, this morning with a bag containing illegal weapons without being stopped. (more)

Warning to 3FM over "company of the day" feature

The programme Arbeidsvitaminen (literally "work vitamins"), produced by AVRO and broadcast on weekdays by the public network 3FM, has received a warning from the Dutch Media Authority that it may be breaking the media law. (more)
