UTV Radio's station director at Talk 107 is standing down to launch a new online media business. Peter Gillespie has been in charge at the station for over two years, and will be replaced, on a temporary basis by Matthew Allit. (more)

UTV Radio's Edinburgh talk station is down in the latest ratings today. Quarter 2 gives talk 107 a three per cent reach, down from four per cent three months ago. Around the group, talkSPORT sees an increase, whilst local stations such as U105 Belfast and Radio Wave Blackpool are on the up. (more)

UTV talks big about advertising profits

NORTHERN Irish broadcaster UTV, owner of Edinburgh radio station Talk 107, today said it had bucked the trend for declining radio advertising revenues, as its radio business delivered profits up by more than 50 per cent to £14.6 million last year. (more)

Talk 107 and Lakeland Radio are just two of the 29 new stations which have signed up to use the services of Sky News Radio via a syndicated package from UBC Media. All UTV Radio and CN Radio stations will continue to use IRN, but take additional advantage of reports and bulletins from Sky. (more)

Radio business booming for UTV

Group operating profits for broadcaster UTV have risen 30 per cent in the last six months. They made a Radio operating profit of £6.3m, after deducting start-up losses of £1.4m launching Talk 107 in Edinburgh and U105 in Belfast.
UTV said advertising revenues at both its British and Irish radio stations rose 16 per cent in the six months to end-June while television advertising revenue fell by 6 percent, outperforming the broader ITV network. (more)
Scottie McClue Joins Talk 107

Legendary talk show host Scottie McClue has joined Talk 107, the talk radio station for Edinburgh and East Central Scotland. McClue will host his last show on Thursday night on Q96 in the West of Scotland - owned by UTV Radio, and will then take up his new late night Mega Phone In programme on sister station Talk 107 in the East from Sunday night. McClue will take over from Adrian Allen who is currently presenting the late night phone in programme. Scottie McClue started at Q96 in March and has also worked at Century, Radio Forth and Scot FM to name but a few.. (more)
Apprentice Star Karen Bremner Joins Talk 107

The Apprentice star Karen Bremner has joined radio station Talk 107 as the breakfast shows new business correspondent. The 34 year old from Newbigging, near Dundee will inform listeners in Edinburgh and the Lothians of the latest business news twice a day. The star will read her first bulletin tomorrow morning at 6.50am with the second at 7.50am. Bremner was axed by Sir Alan Sugar as a contestant on The Apprentice earlier this year.. (more)
UTV Radio Boss on Board

The Group Managing Director of ILR for UTV Radio, Chris Hurst, has been appointed to the board of UTV Radio GB Ltd.
After graduating from Leeds university, Chris started his career at Signal Radio in Stoke On Trent, where he later became Sales Director then Station Director. He was promoted once again to become Regional Managing Director for The Wireless Group before UTV took over the company last year. His responsiblity for 17 Independent Local Radio Stations ranges from Talk 107 in Scotland to Swansea Sound in Wales. (more)
A good year for UTV

UTV, the multi media group which broadcasts television, radio and provides internet and telephony services, announces its preliminary results for the year to 31 December 2005.
The results indicate that, amongst TV and New Media, Radio operating profit (in Ireland alone) is up 56%. The results talk about the succesful launch of U105 in Belfast and gives mention to Talk 107 in Edinburgh, which UTV acquired with the takeover of The Wireless Group. (more)

Talk 107, the UK's first ever local commercial speech-based radio station outside of London has launched in the Scottish Capital at 6am today. After the first news bulletin, breakfast hosts Alex Bell & Susan Morrison welcomed listeners to the new station.

The Edinburgh licence was won by The Wireless Group under the control of Kelvin McKenzie on December 16th 2004 - the date Ofcom awarded the first radio licences since the creation of the new governing body. Originally to be called Dunedin FM, TWG won the licence after a three month battle with 11 other groups including GMG, Saga, Virgin, Celador and local group Castle FM. (more)
Talk 107 start trade tests

UTV Radio-owned Talk 107 has commenced test transmissions on 107.0 Mhz FM from Edinburgh.
Set to launch on Valentines Day, February 14th, the speech based station will target the 40+’s and will be the UK’s 1st ever local commercial speech station outside of London.
Talk 107 will serve one million adults across East Central Scotland. The station was one of the first to win a licence under new regulator Ofcom on December 16th 2004, along with 107 The Bee which commenced broadcasting on October 1st 2005. (more)

UTV Radio's talk107, due to launch in Edinburgh on February 14th 2006 have given a preview of some of the presenters expected to be on the station.
Stand-Up comedian Susan Morrison will form one part of the double-headed breakfast show, and Simon Pia will form part of the drivetime show. Evening News columnist and broadcaster Stephen Jardine will be part of the weekend line-up. (more)
