Forest FM launches in Verwood

On Sunday 9th July, Verwood woke up to the sound of East Dorset's very first community radio station. Listeners tuned in to 92.3 FM to hear the local MP for East Dorset, Chris Chope, officially opening the station. Station Manager Steve Saville said: "After a ten year campaign and 11 RSLs, our area has finally got the licence it deserves. We'll be the mouthpiece for the community and we’ll also be making sure that the community is involved in actually running the station." (more)

Animals and Wildlife come to FUN radio

FUN radio, the radio station for children and families, announced today that it had commissioned independent producer Jody Bourton to create a 26 episode brand new series, the A-Z of Wildlife. Each five minute episode takes a letter of the alphabet and dig deep into the subject of an animal or general - i.e. P is for Polar Bear, R is for Rain Forest. (more)

FUN radio, the radio station for children and families, announced today that it had commissioned independent producer Jody Bourton to create a 26 episode brand new series, the A-Z of Wildlife. Each five minute episode takes a letter of the alphabet and dig deep into the subject of an animal or general - i.e. P is for Polar Bear, R is for Rain Forest. Each episode will look in depth at the animal and subject; what they look and sound like, where they live in the wild and the WILDFACT! It’s all part of the stations 'fun ways to learn' programming ethos. A-Z of Wildlife is due to be broadcast each day within THE CLUB at 4.50pm and on Saturday mornings at 10.10 from 13th February. Ofcom explains Forest FM award

Forest FM won a community radio licence from Ofcom on 5th January 2006 and today they announce the reason behind the award. The RLC explained that Forest FM put forward a comprehensive application which outlined a service that would be a useful addition for the residents of the area. (more)

Community licence for Forest

Ofcom today announces the award of a new community radio licence, bringing the total number of community radio licences awarded to date to 63. Forest FM, in Verwood near Bournemouth applied for a licence in November 2004 and today receives news they have won a licence to broadcast for five years on FM. (more)

Ben Jones: My Life in Media

Ben Jones, 29, has just taken over the microphone as Virgin Radio's new Drivetime presenter. A former children's television presenter, he has successfully made the transition to radio and is on the airwaves every weekday from 4pm to 8pm. He grew up in the New Forest and now lives in Fulham, west London, with his wife. (more)

The Queen's just done a deal. She's going to America - state visit, tour of dude ranches/ Kentucky Derby and so on - which will involve some emissions, some sky-smearing from planes. So she's redeeming herself by planting a small forest, or similar. She's got tremendous worldwide experience of practical tree-planting and she'll have them in there in a moment. So while her grandsons are out there in Boujis or Mahiki, polluting away, granny's up with the eco-players. Carbon footprint - last year's big word, so clear it should get a prize - is now in absolutely universal circulation, on every corporate social responsibility department agenda, a sub-text in every other Radio 4 programme, part of a very big conversation.
