Talk goes down in Edinburgh

UTV Radio's Edinburgh talk station is down in the latest ratings today. Quarter 2 gives talk 107 a three per cent reach, down from four per cent three months ago. Around the group, talkSPORT sees an increase, whilst local stations such as U105 Belfast and Radio Wave Blackpool are on the up. (more)

Five FM & Citybeat Favourites in Northern Ireland

The Breakfast Show on Five FM with Shane Pearce and the Drivetime Show on Citybeat with Lisa McCormick have been voted the Best in Northern Ireland in a poll run by Merry Media.Over the past couple of months, Merry Media has been moving from region to region across the UK to find the best breakfast and drivetime shows on the radio with votes coming from within the radio industry as well as businesses and listeners.Shane Pearce came top of the breakfast poll with his show on Five FM with 16% of the votes, second place was Maurice Jay on U105 and in third place on the poll was Mark and Dave at Citybeat.. UTV Radio sees talk107 rise

Edinburgh talk radio station, talk107, has increased its audience figures once again in the latest RAJAR results. Both hours and reach are up, climbing steadily since not such a good start in Q2, 2006. Other UTV stations including talkSPORT and Belfast's U105 have seen an increase in figures. (more)

UTV Radio are celebrating after the group's 17 stations posted their first quarter-on-quarter increase in listening hours in almost two years. The company saw steady increases at its newest broadcasters - U105 in Belfast and talk107 in Edinburgh. (more)

Radio business booming for UTV

Group operating profits for broadcaster UTV have risen 30 per cent in the last six months. They made a Radio operating profit of £6.3m, after deducting start-up losses of £1.4m launching Talk 107 in Edinburgh and U105 in Belfast. UTV said advertising revenues at both its British and Irish radio stations rose 16 per cent in the six months to end-June while television advertising revenue fell by 6 percent, outperforming the broader ITV network. Citybeat scoops bigger slice

CN-Group owned station Citybeat 96.7FM has been celebrating after the station increased its share of the local radio market in the face of new commercial competition. In the latest RAJAR figures released, the popular Belfast station has extended its market share to 11.8% in the last three months - an increase of 2.4% which equates to the total market share achieved in Citybeat’s area by high profile newcomers, U105. Citybeat has also seen a substantial 11% year on year increase in the station’s weekly audience. (more)

Strong start for U105 Belfast

UTV Radio-owned U105 in Belfast were celebrating today as the latest RAJAR figures released showed that the new station has built up an impressive 63,000 listeners per week in its first six months on air. John Rosborough, Managing Director, U105 said: ”This is a fantastic achievement for all at U105 and we would like to thank our listeners for taking the time to tune up to 105.8 FM. We’re delighted that so many people are enjoying our diverse schedule of programming which provides topical speech and music from the 60’s right up to the present day. (more)

RAJAR Quarter 2 2006 results

Official UK radio industry listening figures are out today, with details of listening habits for almost every commercial and BBC radio station in the country. RAJAR Quarter 2 2006 will see eight new stations reporting for the first time, including U105 in Belfast and talk107 in Edinburgh. Most Emap local stations will have a revised TSA whilst stations which have changed their name will find out if it has any impact in audience numbers. In the last quarter, the Touch FM brand was born, and BBC GMR changed name back to BBC Radio Manchester. (more)

Frank Mitchell for U105 Breakfast

U105’s Ivan and Richard are off on their summer holidays leaving the Breakfast Show in the safe hands of Frank Mitchell till they return in September. Frank said; “I’m really looking forward to hosting the Breakfast Show. The exciting music format on U105 is simply oozing a superb summertime feeling and it’s going to be great working with the Breakfast Show production team on what will be a very entertaining and action packed summer project.” (more)

A good year for UTV

UTV, the multi media group which broadcasts television, radio and provides internet and telephony services, announces its preliminary results for the year to 31 December 2005. The results indicate that, amongst TV and New Media, Radio operating profit (in Ireland alone) is up 56%. The results talk about the succesful launch of U105 in Belfast and gives mention to Talk 107 in Edinburgh, which UTV acquired with the takeover of The Wireless Group. (more)

Radio Academy to visit U105

The Radio Academy N.I. Region and The Royal Television Society are presenting a visit to U105, Belfast’s newest radio station on Wednesday 8th March 2006 at 7.00pm. There will be a presentation by John Rosborough, MD of U105 and station tour, followed by a finger buffet. (more)
