RAJAR results for Q4 2007

The radio industry is reporting highs and lows as the final set of listening figures for 2007 are released today. Swansea Bay Radio, Seven FM, Brunel FM and Original 106.5 are reporting for the first time, whilst Hertbeat has dropped out of the survey. (more)

Industry awaits RAJAR results

Ofcom explains Newry award

Five FM won the new local commercial radio licence for Newry last week - and today Ofcom explains why. As usual, Ofcom said it would be likely to place particular emphasis on the ability of each applicant to maintain its proposed service for the duration of the licence period. It was pointed out that Five FM would benefit from being part of a commonly-owned ‘cluster’ of local stations alongside Six FM in Cookstown and Seven FM in Ballymena. Ofcom also noted the executive management team’s track-record in operating small-scale commercial radio services in the Republic of Ireland. (more)

CN Group sells Mid 106 FM

River Media have bought Cookstown, Co Tyrone station Mid 106 FM for an undisclosed sum, it has been revealed. River Media combine the investors Tim Collins and Padraig O'Dwyer with John Taylor’s Alpha Newspaper Group and the Irish News Group who already own Seven FM, the new station in Ballymena. The growing group will also apply for the new licence for Newry which has a closing date for applications of tomorrow (8th March). (more)

BBC venture wins Indian licences
