Clyde 1 Scoops Scotland’s First Music Week Award

Radio station, 102.5 Clyde 1, has gone where no Scottish station has gone before and won the Regional Radio Station of the Year title at awards run by influential magazine, Music Week. To win, it had to beat off the challenge of 99.9 Radio Norwich, Heart 106.2, XFM London and XFM Manchester.... (more)

The Breakfast Show on XFM Manchester presented by Jason Manford and the Drivetime Show on Dune FM presented by Dan Roach have been voted the Best in North West England according to a poll run by Merry Media.Over the past couple of months, Merry Media will be moving from one region to the next in the UK to find the best Breakfast and Drivetime shows on local radio. We have found the best in the South, South West & South East, East of England, Midlands and North West England - and are now looking for the best in London. Visitors to Merry Media voted for their favourite Breakfast Show in North West England with Jason Manford on XFM Manchester gaining the highest amount of votes - with Dan Roach of Dune FM topping the Drivetime poll.. Several Northwest radio presenters and station staff are getting ready to go head to head against each other in this weekend's Great Manchester Run. Amongst those represented are Key 103, Galaxy, Smooth, Wire FM and XFM Manchester. Rise and fall at GCap Media

Capital Radio at an all time low, and a slow start for Xfm Manchester, but GCap Media remains the largest commercial radio company in the UK.First figures for Xfm Manchester were lower than expected with a 1.1 per-cent audience share and a weekly reach of just 3 per cent (85,000 listeners in a TSA of 2.7 million). Industry awaits RAJAR figures

The countdown is on to official listening figures being released to stations at 17:30 today. Public data for the period ended 17th September 2006 (Quarter 3) will be released from 7am tomorrow.Xfm Manchester is just one of the stations getting figures for the first time. Older stations such as 107 The Bee, which started broadcasting over a year ago, get their first results in January 2007. (more)

LONDON - Xfm Manchester has entered the Guinness Book of World Records for a mass participation dancing record, involving more than 400 people, that was inspired by indie rock band Happy Monday's 1990 cult dance floor hit, 'Step On'. (more)

Xfm Manchester escapes ad ban

Xfm Manchester's launch campaign has escaped a ban for causing offence in the city. The ads were placed on billboards and bus shelters, and featured babies dressed up and posing as iconic music characters, with the strapline "a new music station is born". The poster which generated 23 complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority showed two babies posing as the Gallagher brothers, the Liam baby giving a V sign to the passing public. "I imagine these are the same sort of people who don't go to zoo as baboons have exposed bottoms," Ande Macpherson, Programme Director for GCap North told Radiojam, "the reality is that the creative execution connected with anyone who would interested in Xfm Manchester and the amount of positive feedback dwarves the offended voices." Nick Davidson: My Life In Media

Nick Davidson, 37, is the managing director of Xfm, the London radio station which is up against Radio 1 and Radio 2 for UK Station of the Year in today's Sony Radio Awards. He is also responsible for GCap Media North, which includes the Xfm Manchester, Xfm Scotland and Century brands. Although work is divided between London and Manchester, he lives in Cardiff with his wife Beverley and their two daughters. When he's not pondering the possibilities of digital radio he can be found watching Liverpool FC. (more)

XFM Manchester start testing

The new commercial radio station covering Manchester started irregular trade tests yesterday ahead of it's launch at 8am on March 15th 2006. Intermittent burts of music and short idents, along with a feed of sister station 105.4 Century FM, housed in the same building have all made it onto the new frequency of 97.7 Mhz FM. However the tests are not continuous and may not be regular until the beginning of March. (more)

Clint Boon: My Life In Media

Clint Boon, 47, is a presenter on Xfm Manchester and a member of Madchester band Inspiral Carpets. He began his radio career on the Liverpool station Crash FM in 1995. He has since stood in for Terry Christian on Century FM in Manchester and spent a year at Revolution in his hometown Oldham. Since Xfm Manchester started in March 2006, he has hosted Music: Response from Monday to Thursday as well as Saturday evening show Boon Army. He is nominated for two Sony Awards: Music Broadcaster of the Year and The Specialist Music Programme Award. (more)
