Phoenix FM gets ready to fly

The community radio station for Brentwood and Billericay in Essex is ready to go live on March 23rd. Phoenix FM launches at 7pm, with a grand switch-on by presenters and guests. The station will broadcast 25 different shows, producing around 120 hours of live broadcasting a week. (more)

Phoenix finds new studio base

Community Radio station Phoenix FM has exchanged contracts on their new home in Brentwood. The dedicated team will now spend the next five weeks converting an old unit in the Baytree Centre into a suite of studios and offices. (more)

Choice FM closed down in Ghana

Brentwood student and Phoenix FM presenter Alex Fletcher is home early from her placement at an African radio station after being marched out of the studios at gunpoint. The 19-year-old was half-way through a six-week stint on Ghana's Choice FM when the station was busted for non-payment of taxes. Alex jetted off to the Ghanaian capital of Accra last month to help out on Choice FM's breakfast show. The opportunity followed a month on air in her home town for Alex, who presented an evening alternative music show on Phoenix FM's last broadcast. (more)

Great news for Phoenix FM

Brentwood is to get its own radio station following the recent announcement that Phoenix FM's application for a full-time community licence has been successful. Phoenix FM is celebrating the news from broadcast watchdog Ofcom at its Rayleigh Road studios. The station, which up to now has operated with 28-day occasional licences, is currently on air until February 25 on 87.7FM. (more)
