Channel 4 alliance wins chance to fight BBC with ten radio stations

A Channel 4-led consortium won the right yesterday to launch ten new digital radio stations, with a range of broadcasters, including Walt Disney and BSkyB, hoping to offer profitable alternatives to the dominant BBC. (more)

Community Radio for Somerset

A new community radio station serving Wiveliscombe, Milverton and their surrounding parishes in Somerset will launch before the end of the year, after Ofcom awarded 10Radio a community radio licence today. The station, set up in 2005 has operated two RSL licences in the area. (more)

Conservative leader David Cameron is joining a string of high-profile judges backing an innovative new radio competition to encourage children to read. UKRD, which owns ten radio stations across England, launched pioneering news show The Source for children between eight and fourteen earlier this year. This summer its listeners are being offered the opportunity to win a share of six hundred pounds worth of book tokens in The Source Summer Book Club. Entrants have spent the last three weeks busily writing reviews of their favourite books, helped out by their parents and families. (more)

Pat Kenny tops RTE star salary list
