BCfm 93.2 Broadcast to 20 Million People

Israa Zinalabdin and her radio team from the Sudan National Radio station broadcast live to the Sudan from Bristol community radio station BCfm 93.2fm - to millions of people. BCfm presenters Mohammed El Sharif and Mohammed Makawi present the Sudanese show on Saturdays from 4pm until 7pm and were part of a special show on Thursday 31st January at 7pm. The show was simulcast to the Sudan which would normally have around 20 million people tuning in. . (more)

Classic FM launch new services

Emap Radio worth 422million

Emap's 38 radio stations, including Magic 105.4, CFM, Radio City and Wave 105 have been sold to Bauer for a total of £422m in cash. The amount represents otional interest on the base purchase price at a rate of 10% per annum in the period from 30 September 2007 to completion. (more)

KCFM 99.8 lights up the sky

Hull's new radio station KCFM is lighting up a local building in an attempt to gain new listeners. The Hull Royal Infirmary agreed for the station to put its name and familiar song titles on the tall building, which overlooks a temporary fun fair. (more)

KCFM signs with First Radio

Hull's new radio station KCFM has appointed First Radio Sales as its national sales representation company. The station launched at the beginning of August to a potential audience of 420,000 people in Hull and East Yorkshire. (more)

KCFM goes live in Hull

KCFM 99.8 has started broadcasting this morning in Hull. Breakfast presenter and local lad Steve Jordan launched KCFM 99.8 at 6am with an interview between PC Tim Jibson and Chairman Ian Blakey followed by Twist and Shout by The Beatles. The station, serving Hull and East Yorkshire, promises to be a local station for local people with 24 hour news, music and sport. (more)

BBC banned from rugby club

Super League rugby club Hull FC have banned BBC Radio Humberside from talking to their players and coaching staff, after what the club calls a "series of negative and factually incorrect reports". The club also says that it is in talks with Hull's soon-to-launch new commercial radio station, KCFM, regarding a deal to cover the team. (more)

New Bristol station launches

A new community radio station has launched in Bristol today. BCFM started broadcasting at 12 midday on 93.2, aiming to serve all parts of the community including several programmes in different languages to truely serve all aspects of local life. The station is also streaming online. (more)

CFM boss heads to Radio Forth

Ofcom explains UTV licence win

Ofcom has revealed why the Radio Licencing Committee awarded UTV the licence to provide a new local radio service for Preston, Leyland and Chorley. Proud FM won the licence over stiff competition from CLR, PLCfm and UFM. (more)

Four apply for Preston licence

Four groups have applied to Ofcom to run the new commercial radio station for Preston, Leyland and Chorley. They are Central Lancashire Radio, plcfm, Proud FM and UFM. All applicants propose a local service broadcasting local news and familar music from the last 5 decades. Two of the applicants have operated RSL broadcasts in the area, Central Lancashire Radio (in the Chorley area) and plcfm (formerlly known known as Ribble FM in Preston). (more)

Local group KCFM win Hull licence

Local radio group KCFM have won the battle for the new FM commercial radio station for Kingston-upon-Hull. Ofcom received seven applications in total including submissions from UTV Radio, TLRC, Lincs FM and CanWest. The owners of KCFM 99.9 are SMC Ltd (29%) with the reminder of the shares held by six individuals. It will provide 'a truly local, full service radio station for Kingston-upon-Hull playing a wide variety of classic hit music from the last four decades, with 24 hour-a-day local news, sport, information, interviews and entertaining features of particular relevance to the City and the surrounding area'. John Myers returns to CFM

EXCLUSIVE: John Myers, now Chief Executive of GMG Radio Group will return for one night only to the radio station he launched in 1993. To help celebrate the 13th anniversary of Carlisle-based CFM on April the 14th, the Friday Night Phone-In will return hosted by Myers, who was also Managing Director of parent company Border Radio Holdings.
