Thief hits Radio Pembrokeshire

Pedr the Puffin, Radio Pembrokeshire’s long-serving mascot is recovering after a traumatic day at and outside broadcast in Milford Haven. Pedr is thought to be safe and well after a group of men ripped off his costume and ran off. (more)

MuxCo bags Mid and West Wales

The latest digital radio multiplex for Wales has been given to MuxCo Wales, in which Town and Country Broadcasting holds the majority stake in. MuxCo will provide one new service called Wales Live, as well as re-transmitting Radios Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire and BBC Radio Cymru. (more)

Stations ban X-Factor single

Radio stations owned by Town and Country Broadcasting in Wales have banned the winning X Factor single by Scottish Leon Jackson. Listeners to Bridge FM, Swansea Bay Radio, Radio Carmarthenshire, Radio Pembrokeshire and Scarlet FM want a re-count after it was revealed Welsh Rhydian missed out on the winning prize. (more)

Ofcom expands Wales DAB plans

The planned digital licence for Pembrokeshire & Carmarthenshire has been replaced with a licence for Mid and West Wales, which is designed to cover the counties of Ceredigion and Powys too. This change has been made to provide more coverage in Wales for current and future services. (more)

Tindle Radio sells Bridge FM

Bridgend station 106.3 Bridge FM has been sold by Tindle Radio Group to Town and Country Broadcasting. The South Wales station joins Radios Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire, plus Scarlet FM which are also fully owned by Town and Country. The purchase of Bridge FM, along with the recently won new licence for Swansea will give the growing company five stations around South Wales. It is owned by former Virgin Radio and Wireless Group boss Jason Bryant. The former station director for Swansea Sound, Esther Morton, will become the new regional managing director for the group. Keri leaves Town and Country

Keri Jones, the force behind Radios Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire is leaving the business he founded five years ago to concentrate on a new role as consultant to both BBC and small market commercial services and to run his own community radio service. The news comes as Town and Country Broadcasting take full control of the station, purchasing shares from Keri and other local shareholders. Radio Pembrokeshire has been acknowledged as one of the UK’s most successful radio stations. Profitable from day one, the West Wales service has achieved record breaking RAJAR audience figures for nine successive ratings periods and regularly delivers around 40% share. Keri’s stations’ ratings and commercial successes have been recognised with a Sony nomination and the Arquiva Station of the year award for an unprecedented two years-in-a-row. (more)

Brunel FM confirms top appointment

Brunel FM has announced who will launch and manage Swindon’s newest radio station when it makes its debut later in the year. The music led station (formerly known as Now FM) which features hits of the last 4 decades, news and information - won the 12 year FM commercial radio licence from the industry regulator Ofcom in September against stiff competition. Brunel FM has appointed its first Station Manager to spearhead the project. 33 year old Martin Mumford moved to Swindon in mid – January and now has the challenging task of building and developing the radio station. Martin has considerable experience in Independent Local Radio which includes masterminding the highly successful launch of Rugby FM. His most recent appointment was as Group Commercial Director of The Radio Pembrokeshire Group which owns award winning Radio Pembrokeshire. (more)
