Radio consortium MuxCo have won the latest local digital radio licence, which will broadcast a mix of established and new digital services to Somerset.It is the eleventh local DAB licence that a MuxCo consortium have applied for, and the eighth won. (more)

Radio stations around the UK have received their latest audience figures from RAJAR, and once again RadioToday.co.uk is bringing you the top headlines, facts, figures and easy-to-read graphs.Stations reporting for the first time are Sunshine Radio and BBC Somerset, whilst Core, Oneword, Big L, Win 107.2 are just some of the stations no longer participating in RAJAR. Ofcom has received just one application for the DAB digital radio multiplex in Somerset. The sole bidder is MuxCo Somerset Limited, made up of TLRC, UKRD and MuxCo Ltd. (more)

All change at Radio Bristol

The new frequncies for BBC local radio in Bristol and Somerset will commence on Monday, as BBC Somerset gets ready to start programmes on their own FM frequency of 95.5 for the first time. In addition, BBC Radio Bristol will use 94.9 as their main transmitter. (more)
More DAB for Wales and Somerset

Ofcom has added two more areas to their planned timetable for future digital radio multiplexes. The county of Somerset and the counties of Gwynedd, Anglesey/Sir Ynys Mon, Conwy and most of Denbighshire/Sir Ddinbych in north Wales will be advertised in early 2008. (more)

The station, which launched in 1988 as an opt-out from BBC Radio Bristol, will broadcast on Radio Bristol’s 95.5 frequency at Mendip. BBC Somerset Sound goes FM

The programmes of BBC Somerset are set to make the switch to FM. The station, which launched in 1988 has only ever been heard on medium wave but will make use of Radio Bristol’s 95.5 frequency at Mendip from December 3rd. (more)
BBC axes new stations plan

As part of the jobs cuts announced by the BBC, additional cuts are being made by axing non-core activity by BBC Regions. These include scrapping plans for new BBC local radio stations in Bradford, Cheshire, Dorset and Somerset. (more)
Ofcom awards six licences

Community Radio took another step forward today with the awarding of six more licences for community groups. The new stations, which are all given a licence for five years are located in Gwent, Swansea, Devon, Somerset and two in Cornwall. (more)
Original 106.5 hires TLRC man

Original 106.5fm, the new CanWest radio station for the Bristol area is to be programmed by Stewart Smith. Stewart is currently Area Station Manager with The Local Radio Company, responsible for Ivel FM in Somerset and Vale FM in Dorset. (more)

Community Radio for Somerset

A new community radio station serving Wiveliscombe, Milverton and their surrounding parishes in Somerset will launch before the end of the year, after Ofcom awarded 10Radio a community radio licence today. The station, set up in 2005 has operated two RSL licences in the area. (more)
Laser purchases Quaywest and BCR

Laser Broadcasting has today announced that it has reached agreement with Choice Media to purchase Quaywest fm based in West Somerset and BCR fm based in Bridgwater. This is one of a number of purchases agreed by Laser Broadcasting including Classic Hits in Hereford and Worcester and Sunshine in Ludlow. (more)
