More football for Beacon Radio

Beacon Radio is increasing it's football coverage this coming season. As well as commentaries on every Wolverhampton game, the GCap Media station will be providing commentary on all West Bromwich Albion matches too. Beacon will also be linking with BRMB for a Friday night phone-in. (more)

Beacon's birthday celebrations

Shropshire's 103.1 Beacon Radio is celebrating 20 years of being on air this weekend. The GCap Media owned radio station launched on 14th July 1987, and to commemorate the stations birthday, Beacon will be springing 1 or 2 surprises on listeners all day. (more)

Signal 1 & Beacon Radio Favourites in the West Midlands

The Breakfast Show on Signal 1 hosted by Andy Goulding and Louise Stones and The Drivetime Show on Beacon Radio hosted by Jon Wyer have been voted the Best in the West Midlands according to a poll run by Merry Media. Over the past couple of months, Merry Media will be moving from one region to the next in the UK to find the best Breakfast and Drivetime shows on local radio. We have found the best in the South, South West & South East, East of England, East Midlands and the West Midlands and are now looking for the best in the North West region of England.Merry Media visitors voted for their favourite Breakfast Show in the West Midlands with Andy & Louise from Signal 1 gaining 14% of the votes. Ben Day from The Severn was in 2nd place with 10% of the votes followed by Mike Wyer from Smooth Radio.. (more)

Beacon hires ex-BBC footy man

Following the recent addition to Beacon Radio’s Game On football show of match updates from every Walsall game, Beacon Radio has signed George Andrews to become the voice of the Saddlers on the station. (more)

More Walsall for Beacon Radio

Beacon Radio have expanded their local football coverage with regular match updates of every Walsall match during their ‘Game-on’ football show. Beacon will also broadcast the pre and post match interview with Walsall FC manager Richard Money. (more)

Alan Mullett joins Laser

Laser Broadcasting has strengthened its management team with the appointment of Alan Mullett as Director of Development. Alan started his career working for the Wolverhampton Express and Star newspaper group before joining Beacon Radio in 1976 firstly as Sales Executive before becoming Sales Director and then Managing Director in 1987, a role he continued in until 1996. During this time Alan increased annual turnover and played a part in the development of the commercial radio sector as a whole through his involvement in the industry’s inaugural marketing body and his Chairmanship of the annual advertising awards. Ofcom release latest complaints

The Ofcom broadcast bulletin for Monday 6th February contains details of complaints and comments made against recent programmes on BBC and Commercial Radio. The complaints includes a phone call broadcast on Emap's 97.4 Rock FM by Adam Caterall who admits to setting up a phone call talking to about their imaginary sexual activity. Two listeners complained that the telephone conversation between the presenter and the woman contained crude and offensive sexual remarks, which they thought were unacceptable. Another complaint was to the Mark and Jo show on Beacon Radio where a listener thought that the presenter’s use of the word “poof” when she referred to a band was homophobic. (more)
