Kerrang! hires former Xfm DJ

Ian Camfield has left Xfm after 10 years, and started a new weekly rock show on Kerrang! Radio. Ian moved to New York last year to host drive on New York's K-Rock, but continued to present a weekly Xfm programme. (more)

Shaw sacked by Kerrang

Breakfast presenter Tim Shaw has been dismissed by Kerrang! Radio following an investigation into a competition at the station.The allegations against Shaw concerned the mismanagement of a competition on Kerrang! Radio where the presenter was found to have breached company rules. (more)

New York Awards - UK winners

The New York Festivals Awards Gala took place yesterday evening at the Tribeca Rooftop in Manhattan, hosted by Kerrang! Radio's Tim Shaw. Several UK stations and shows were nominated, and many came away with the top prize. Winners include Town 102, Totally 80s with Gary King, Girls Talk on FM107.9 and Radio City's Pete Price. (more)

Emap's Kerrang! Radio in Birmingham is combining celebrities and swearing for their latest station-wide promotion, by asking listeners to identify hidden swear words. Out of the three celebrity voices - one says "crap", one says "knob", one says "motherf**ker". (more)

Music Week Awards - winners

BBC Radio 2 and Kerrang! Radio were among the big winners at the Music Week Awards last night. The national BBC network won Station of the Year for the second year running, whilst Emma Scrafton from Kerrang! was named Music Programmer of the Year. (more)

Dan Morfitt joins Kerrang! Radio from Viking

Viking FM's Dan Morfitt has been announced as the new voice of Kerrang! Radio overnights, replacing Sean Coleman.Morfitt, who presented Viking's local alternative music show, The Sunday Session, will join Emap's West Midlands rock station this Tuesday (23 January).He will present the 2am-6am slot every weeknight, and will also front a Saturday lunchtime show on the station.Kerrang! Radio was named commercial radio station of the year in the first Radio Magazine end-of-year "best of the best" review, after it won a string of awards at the Sonys and the New York Festival.In the last set of Rajars, the station — which launched in 2004 — claimed just under 400,000 weekly listeners and a 3.4 share of the hotly-contested Brum radio market. The Stereophonics, Bullet for My Valentine and the Lost Prophets are among the Welsh bands supporting Emap's bid to bring Kerrang! Radio to South Wales.Emap has confirmed it will be submitting an application to Ofcom by 12 December for the licence, with a decision expected in spring 2007.Adrian Serle, MD of Kerrang! Radio, said: "Wales has an awesome history of rock music that Kerrang! has always supported."You only have to look at the hotbed of talent from this area to know that Kerrang! has a natural home here, serving a buzzing scene with the genuine article."Kelly Jones, from The Stereophonics, said: “The need for this radio station is reflected in music and download sales, live music ticket sales, growth in demand for festivals and the advent of websites such as Myspace.�If successful, Emap has pledged to invest £3 million in launching the station, hiring new presenters and helping to develop the area's local live music scene.More from kerrangradiowales.co.uk (more)

Kerrang to bid for South Wales

Fresh from their win in Liverpool with an all-talk format, Emap has launched a bid to extend Kerrang! Radio to South Wales.The closing date for applications to Ofcom is December 12th, with the new licence covering Cardiff, Swansea and parts of Newport. (more)
