Afan FM
Afan FM is the community radio station serving the Neath Port Talbot area of South Wales. It was granted the UK's first new Community Radio licence on April 20th 2005 (the previous four granted stations were all participants in an earlier "Access Radio" pilot scheme)
107.9 Afan FM launched two years to the day of its licence award on April 20th 2007, with the first song being Feeder - Just A Day, the first song that the station played on its first RSL broadcast in 2003.
The station broadcasts to the Port Talbot area on 107.9Mhz with a new transmitter for the Neath area set to launch on 97.4Mhz in Summer 2008.
Afan FM is based at the Afan Lido Leisure Centre - part of the multi-million pound redevelopment of Aberavon Seafront into a top class Leisure & Entertainment destination. It's brand studio complex is currently under construction and is jointly funded by Neath Port Talbot Council and the Welsh Assembly Government.
Afan FM is primarily a new music station - playing only credible Alternative, Dance & Chart music from the 90s and now. It has a variety of specialist shows including 16 hours of specialist club/dance & urban programming each weekend and 8 hours of specialist Alternative programming during the week.
