BBC7
BBC7 is a national radio station, available on DAB Digital Radio, Freeview and digital satellite.
Launched in December 2002, BBC7 is a spoken word station, broadcasting radio comedy, drama and children's programmes. Most of these programmes are taken from the BBC archives, the majority of which have been broadcast over the past 50 years on BBC Radio 4. However, BBC7 also commissions a number of new programmes, including science fiction, unabridged readings and live comedy.
Children's programmes broadcast for four hours per day on BBC7 - the Little Toe Radio Show between 7am and 8pm (daily, pre-recorded, repeated 3pm - 4pm) and the Big Toe Radio Show (live Monday - Saturday, pre-recorded Sundays, 4pm to 6pm).
BBC7 uses pre-recorded continuity to introduce programmes and trail the schedules; in February 2005 a weekday breakfast strand was created to increase the profile of the station, initially presented by Richard Bacon.
BBC7 won the Gold Station Sound award at the Sony Radio Academy Awards in 2003, and was nominated in the Promotional Award category last year. In 2005, BBC7 is nominated in three categories - The Short Form Feature Award, The Speech Award and Digital Station of the Year.
