Help a Hallam Child
Help a Hallam Child is the official charity of Hallam FM and Magic AM in South Yorkshire. The charity has raised over £1 million for local children since it was established in 1977.
Funds are raised through a wide range of events including the annual charity auction, where both stations join together for the day to auction off items donated by celebrities and local companies, with all proceeds going to the charity. In 2004 Hallam FM presenter John Harrison spent a week living in the window of Debenhams in Sheffield as a fund raising event.
Money raised is allocated to groups or projects that will benefit local children. These may be children who are suffering from mental, physical or sensory disorders, suffering from behavioural or psychological problems, living in severe poverty or situations of deprivation, suffering distress, abuse or neglect.
In the 1990s, the charity produced some 'bow ties' for cars to show support and as a fundraiser. Noel Edmonds is pictured to the right with a special bow tie for his helicopter.
