What is an RSS feed

From Media UK's The Knowledge. Last update: 10:41, 28 May 2005 by James Cridland.

An RSS feed is a computer file that you can use in a variety of ways:

  1. to display news headlines from another site on yours
  2. to enable you to read updates quickly using a newsreader program
  3. to enable headlines from more than one site to appear on the same screen

Media UK has a few RSS feeds of our own, and also links (http://www.mediauk.com/directory/?rss=yes) to media organisation RSS feeds where they exist using the Media UK robots.

Watch for the orange RSS button throughout the site.

See more information on RSS in Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS_%28file_format%29).
