The BBC said in a statement: “A court order has been made that has prevented the BBC from broadcasting the programme The Riots: In their own Words tonight. We will put it out at a later date.”
The BBC said on BBC2 tonight… “Now, here in a change to tonight’s programme is…” – wonder why they weren’t a little more open as to why it had been unable to broadcast the programme?
It appears that there’s very little about the ban that can be reported. The BBC are considering an appeal.
I instinctively feel very uneasy about any attempt to stifle the media like this, and the secrecy surrounding this only amplifies that feeling.
Could it be that there are still some leagl issues outstanding from the case brought as a result of the riots.
