Stargate: SG-1 Axed

After 10 seasons of episodes and having the title of the longest running sci-fi series in the United States, Stargate: SG-1 has been axed - and will end next May when the current season finishes. The show haslow ratings but this is not the reason why it is being axed according to the Sci-Fi Channel. Producers are going to tie up loose ends in the programme. Remaining cast members will be transferred over to spin-off show Stargate: Atlantis - which has been commissioned for a fourth season for 2007. SG-1 stars Ben Browder, Amanda Tapping, Michael Shanks, Christopher Judge, Beau Bridges and Claudia Black.. (more)

American Acquisitions: Is the flow of US quality TV drying up?

For a US series to become a hit in the UK, it must work on both sides of the pond, otherwise the US network pulls it and we're left with nothing to air. But US viewers aren't watching that many new shows this season. Only two bona-fide hits have emerged: Ugly Betty, already airing here on Channel 4, and Heroes, which debuted on the Sci-Fi channel last week. To adapt the old saying, American audiences sneeze and British networks get a cold. (more)
