First free-to-air Chinese TV channel to launch in New Zealand

CTV8 (Chinese Television 8) will launch a free-to-air (FTA) broadcast to the Auckland area of New Zealand on UHF channel 62 on 1 August 2007. The 24-hour service has been organised by Auckland-based World Television (WTV) .

Al-Jazeera English to launch in South Africa

Telesur to broadcast free-to-air in Nicaragua

Telesur will begin free-to-air broadcasting in Nicaragua by the end of the year, Sergio Rodriguez, Telesur international affairs consultant announced yesterday. Rodriguez said they are presently analyzing whether Nicaraguan Channel 4 will carry Telesur broadcasts, but did not rule out rescuing Channel 6, a state TV channel abandoned by previous governments.

New Irish TV station decides not to go on Sky platform

The new Irish commercial TV station Channel 6 has decided not to broadcast on the Sky Digital satellite platform. The official reason is a disagreement with Sky about its position on the new Electronic Programme Guide. New Irish TV station secures €14m in funding

Ireland's new national TV station due to launch in the spring has secured €14m in funding from investors. Channel 6 will provide a broad range of movies, music, drama and comedy aimed at the 15-to-35 age-group. The broadcaster will also include local programming with fresh new home-grown talent.
